Earth Day Week 08

Earth Day celebrations at Manava Bharati India International School, Panchsheel Park (South), New Delhi

Earth Day Week was celebrated by the school through various innovative activities and interventions. Some of these were:

1. A group of children visited the TERI office on 15 April 08 to interview Dr. R.K.Pachauri, Director General, TERI and Chairman of the IPCC that won the Nobel Peace Prize 2007. There they presented Car-Pool stickers to him and took his advice for promoting efforts at mitigating the negative impacts of Climate Change. Children also gave their views to FM 104 Fever Radio Station on the import of Public Transport. Later, these children went to various Delhi Metro Stations to interview commuters about the benefits of the Metro, and how it had positively influenced their lives.

2. On 22 April 08 – Earth Day – a group of children presented a skit on promoting Public Transport at the National Science Centre, New Delhi. The audience included the Union Environment Minister Sri N.N. Meena, senior functionaries from the Ministry of Environment and Forest, senior TERI officials and hundreds of school children.

3. On 22 April 08 – Earth Day – two important events were organised within the campus of the school to raise awareness about Mother Earth. These were:

  • An Inter House Environment Quiz for two different groups – Juniors (Classes VI-VIII) and Seniors (Classes IX - XII). The audience too participated with great excitement and vigour.
  • An Inter House Poster Making Completion on the theme of Conservation & Mother Earth.

The entire Earth Day Week 2008 helped sensitise the children on the urgent need to do our bit to preserve the beauty and the re-generative capacity of Planet Earth.
